I had the pleasure of coaching with Don at Hofsta University in the early 1990s. I still cherish the many fine moments we shared together with our fellow coaches and with our fine student athletes. Don was the confidant and personal friend of our head coach Butch Van Breda Kolff and thus was the glue behind the scenes. He was a kind father figure to our athletes and always smiled and laughed with them. I personally enjoyed when Don and I would drive together to scout our next opponent. On the way there, he would tell me stories about his beloved wife and children. On the drive back to Hofstra, we would plan strategies to share with our athletes. The picture posted on this website is so appropriate for Don. It is how I remember him from 40 years ago--- smiling, gentle, peaceful; a true Christian gentleman. May he rest in peace. My deepest sympathy for the Laux family. I remember many nights talking basketball with my father and coach Laux. He had a big influence on me not only in basketball but in life. Just a really good man who was a great listener who I could always get good sound advice from. I will miss him very much.

Still remember Don's Mom and Dad giving us ice cold water on a hot summer's day in their backyard on 200th street after playing Basketball against the hoop on the garage with Jack Richichi, Ray Parcels and Billy Napoleon, also watching the Billy Conn vs Joe Louis fight on that 12" tv with the 2" thick magnifying glass on June 18th, 1941, and walking to Jackson on those cold wintery days with the inseverable snowball fight on 205st street making us late for school. Great times Great fun and great days. Donny was always the organizer whether it was Basketball,SlapballHhide and Seek Humbly Peg or anything he would bring back from Cleveland on his return from vacation. I lived at 116-40 200th Street
