Obituary of Kevin John Lewis

Please share a memory of Kevin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kevin J Lewis, also known as “Biggie,” passed away on Monday, August 3, 2020. He was taken away from us suddenly at the age of 58. Kevin was a larger than life kind of man. He had so many memorable qualities about him, but it was his laugh and smile which will be remembered most of all. He was a joy to hang around with, to talk to, and just to know. People gravitated towards his gregarious personality. His co-workers remember him as a man who commanded everyone’s attention the second he entered the room. Kevin grew up in Syosset, New York with his mother Maureen, aka Gilly, his father, the late Timothy, and his brother Jason. It was there in Syosset where he met AnnMarie, his beloved wife of almost 40 years, who he called Anna or AML. After they married, they had their daughter Colleen and their son Timothy. Kevin was an extremely hard-working man. He worked for the NYC Department of Sanitation for 27 years. It was in 2005 when he became supervisor of the Q10 garage. It was not all work, however, which fulfilled Kevin’s life. He was an avid golfer, who loved to travel and go on vacations. Some of his other hobbies included playing poker, watching the NY Mets and NY Giants, and betting on the horses. Kevin also enjoyed attending the Cooley’s Anemia Foundation functions by participating in their Birthday Club and Cigar Nights. Kevin’s family was not just his family, they were his friends. He was happiest when he was among them. He was the father-in-law to both Christopher and Amanda, a wonderful grandpa to Connor, and was looking forward to the arrival of his newest grandchild due in December. He was an exceptional brother-in-law, and devoted uncle to his nieces and nephews, who best remember him as “Uncle Candy.” Kevin cherished all he called family which included his aunts, uncles, cousins, golf buddies, co-workers, and friends. Donations can be made in remembrance of Kevin to the Cooley’s Anemia Foundation or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
