My uncle John was, as they say, Good people. He helped so many, so often, you might think it would go unnoticed, but it doesn’t. People recognized his genuineness and were put at ease by his clam way of communicating.
When I had tickets to a Mets game on a week night in the summer of ‘86 and my dad had to get up too early for work, my uncle John offered to go with me. Not only did he go, but he drove and then took me to Kennedy’s afterward.
When we talked I had no choice but to soak up his words of wisdom or laugh at his dry delivery of hysterical observations. His stories were varied and always surprised me that my calm mild mannered Uncle John could have such a wide array of experiences, somehow he would always be able to weave in a “moral of the story”. He never judged me by what I’ve done or was doing, but instead offered a relatable story in a nonjudgmental way about things he may have done or seen.
Uncle John is sorely missed and forever fondly remembered. From one “Cool Dude” to another, Rest In Peace Cool Dude.

My Uncle John will be surely missed by all our family & friends ! Early childhood memories of Uncle John are him walking around in his hands at our Grandparents house, He also gave my 4 brothers & I 10 silver dollars each every Christmas. Also John & my uncle Michael sang many Irish songs together. Ironically he also persuaded me to take the civil service test & I will be retiring from in June ! The best word to describe my Uncle John is the word humility, always doing for others and helping those around him .John brought me to my 1st 30 AA meetings & working through God he saved my life ! I will Love you always ,your Nephew Jim Joyce

John and I grew up in the St Thomas Aquinas parish in Flatlands Brooklyn. We were 1 grade apart but became friends after John was discharged from active duty in late 69 or early 70.We spent many hours in the M&M,Coughlins,The Vanderveer and other assorted Irish bars in the neighborhood and elsewhere.John was an easy going , nice guy who was very well respected by others. He had great core values and a a great sense of humor.John and I had many colorful adventures together over the years. We stayed in contact by phone and got together every summer. We shared many laughs and stories about the cast of characters that we grew up with or interacted with.I will miss his upbeat, non -judgemental and frank
demeanor.

John was a kind hearted genuinely good human being. . His dry wit and many years of experience and service to our AA community was a gift to all of us who knew him. Fly high John you are dearly missed.
