Obituary of Andrew J. Como

Please share a memory of Andrew to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Andrew J. Como, age 91, of Oceanside on Friday, February 10, 2023. Andrew (Andy) was born on March 13, 1931, in Brooklyn, New York, the first of two sons to the late Frances (Parisi) and John Como. He had a zest for life- funny, hardworking, genuine, wise, loyal and generous. Anyone who knew Andy was left with an indelible memory that will forever make them chuckle, smile and very likely shake their head. Andy often said that two things changed his life for the best. He joined the US Marine Corps in 1951 and he married Marie (Pavone), his childhood sweetheart, on April 27, 1952. Without a doubt, it was the indescribable love Marie and Andy shared and his burning desire to return home to “his gal” Marie and their first child John (born while he was away fighting in Korea) that carried him safely through battle and back into her waiting arms. Upon his return to civilian life, Andy and Marie raised their now 3 children first in Brooklyn and then in Franklin Square before later moving with Marie when he retired to Oceanside. He proudly worked on such landmarks as The Chrysler Building, The Time & Life Building, and The Empire State Building in the years that he was in construction. He then worked as a letter carrier with the US Postal Service for 30 years, the ideal job for a man who loved the outdoors and people. It was a testament to Andy that wherever he went, he would meet someone who knew him. He talked to everyone no matter what your position in life and had an uncanny ability to find something in common, to share, and to laugh. Andy loved to travel to destinations that mostly involved the mountains he and Marie so loved. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, playing cards, visiting racetracks and watching his Giants despite the lifelong frustration this team gave him. A good cigar, a good beer, or a good scotch might be in his hand but always a good friend would be by his side. His life was oh so rich with friends he cherished. He leaves to celebrate his life and to carry on his legacy his 3 children: John (Barbara), Fran (Brian) and Connie (Joe), 7 grandchildren: Denae, Shane (Karina), Chrissy (Brian), Jackie, John (Allie), Mark (Joanna), and Jen (Shawn), and 7 great-grandchildren: Caden, Jeffrey, Graham, Jack, Ryan, Isabella, and Ava. Andy was preceded in death and was welcomed home in a most beautiful reunion by his beloved wife Marie as well as his parents, his brother Sebastian and his grandson Ian.
