Today held a mixture of feelings. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Aunt Anna at St Anthony RC Church in Oceanside. It was attended by family and friends. Her coffin was wheeled in with the assistance of her grandsons and great grandsons with reverence and love. The first reading was read by her granddaughter Jami and the second reading by her granddaughter Kristina. Two beautiful readings by two strong women, a tribute to their beautiful grandmother.
The priest’s homily was beautifully spoken acclaiming the love of a woman for her family.
The General Intercessions were read by her great grandson Connor and the Presentation of the Gifts were presented by her great granddaughters Siobhan and Cora.
The Communion Hymn was Hail Mary, Gentle Woman such beautiful lyrics which very much mirrored the way Aunt Anna lived her life……gentle woman, quiet light, peaceful, teaching wisdom and love.
It was a beautiful service for a beautiful woman.
The Mass was followed by burial at Greenfield Cemetery in Uniondale where Aunt Anna was laid to rest with Uncle Carl.
Burial was followed by a repast at King Umberto’s in Elmont…..a gathering of family and friends to honor Aunt Anna who has passed on to her eternal rest.
Aunt Anna you are loved and you will be missed but we will hold you dearly in our hearts forever.
Love, Rita

We all have special people in our lives who will always have a piece of our heart. Anna was one of those special people for me. In 1958 my brother Charlie and I were reunited with my parents after a long separation. We had been living in Italy with our grandparents and two older sisters Teresa and Cettina. I was 11 and Charlie was 15. Shortly after our arrival in New York, Charlie was diagnosed with a brain tumor and needed lifesaving surgery as soon as possible. During Charlie’s hospital stay my parents spent as much time as possible with him, children weren’t allowed to visit patients and my little brother Peter was 3. Carlo and Anna were happy to have Peter and me stay with them to make things easier for my parents. I was a very sad and homesick little girl trying to get to know my parents who were strangers to me, not speaking one word of English, experiencing culture shock and just wishing I could go back to my grandparents and sisters.
>>> Anna’s house was a safe haven for me. Her gentleness and kindness wrapped around me like a warm blanket. I never told her how I felt but I sensed that she knew. She was loving and kind and her tenderness melted my heart. She explained things I didn’t understand about this new country, took me grocery shopping, bought me my first street hot dog and introduced me to waffles. I was fascinated by her waffle iron. I loved her kitchen, I thought it was super modern and very cool. She taught me the best way to make fresh tomato sauce was to use a colander and squeeze the tomatoes by hand because the sauce would be thicker. I loved being with her, I couldn’t get enough of her kindness and warmth. She also reminded me so much of her mom Zia Giuseppina, who was my grandfather’s sister, and her sisters Maria, Lina and Silvia. They were all as kind and loving as she was. I have so many wonderful memories of all our holidays with our Piparo cousins always filled with love, laughter and good food. My favorite Christmas gift from Anna was an umbrella, I was ecstatic to finally have one that was my very own. One Christmas Eve my brother Charlie and sister in law Joyce got engaged in Carlo and Anna’s house. When I got married I moved to Vermont and when Anna and Carlo retired I was thrilled when they came to see us on two separate occasions, like good Italians, their car was always filled with food and gifts. It was important to me to have my husband Tim and my kids Jamie and Jennifer get to know them. They loved them. So many sweet memories with Anna and Carlo over the years but my time with Anna during that first year in America will always be embedded in my mind as a little bit of heaven with Anna being my guardian angel at exactly the right time and place. She was pure love and is probably serenading all our loved ones in heaven with her sweet voice at this very moment. Rest In Peace sweet angel.

The news that dear Anna is no longer here saddened me so much I didn't expect it maybe we thought she would be eternal
She will always be in my heart I will never forget her sweet smile
How many good memories
Anna has been there ever since we arrived in America way back in 1949
She gave me so many advices and Teresa thinks she helped us choose our first Bra. They are small but very sweet memories for me, an 87 year old lady.
And then all the Christmases spent together
The fun of making arancini
The joy when we opened the presents
What memories!!

My grandma was loving and caring. Her kind and thoughtful nature touched each one of us. Her love was expressed in the amazing meals she made and the listening ear she generously gave. She loved sitting around the table playing solitaire, working on a word search or any other number of games. Grandma, your love and presence will always be missed but forever felt in our hearts. It was an honor and privilege to be your grandson. Say hi to grandpa, Stacey and everyone else on the other side. I love and miss you.

My Nonna was an incredible woman who did nothing but saturate me with love from the day I was born until the day she passed. The pure happiness that would show on her face whenever she would see me will stay with me forever. She gave me nonstop hugs and kisses whenever I was with her, and told me that she loved me every chance she got.
I’m very blessed to be your grandson, and I love and miss you every day. Say hi to Nonno for me, and may you rest in absolute peace.

One day, long after you were moved to the nursing home, Vivian mentioned that you had lived with us for 17 years. I was dumbstruck. I just couldn't believe that you had been living with us for that long. If I had been asked I would have said maybe 10 years. You were never a bother, always looking to do something for someone.
Many people sit and complain about their mothers-in-law; but I have the pleasure of never having to do that. Sure there were those times when we drove each other a little crazy but they always resulted in a long laugh afterwards.
I'm sure you are happy to be back together with Carl, and all the family and extended family already waiting for you in heaven. I can only imagine the surprise on your face when Stacey met you at the gates.
Anna rest with the knowledge that you have left behind family and friends that will miss your presence for many many years to come.

When I think of Anna I see her smiling face and remember what a kind, gentle, and loving person she was. Anna was truly a precious gift to those of us who were blessed to know her.
“Mrs. Piparo” came into my life when Vivian and I attended grade school and high school together and we began what would become our lifelong friendship.
As you would expect, “Mrs. P” became another mom
to me.
Anna was always smiling…happy and excited to see you. She welcomed everyone into her home with genuine joy and love. Anna had a knack for making you feel comfortable - like you really belonged…you
WERE FAMILY to her!!!
Years passed and things changed but Anna never seemed to change, she was the one constant in
our lives. The warmth of her smile, her greeting with a hug and a kiss, the joy of knowing that she loved you.
My heart aches at the loss of this beautiful soul who impacted so many lives.
May she Rest In Peace.
With Love,
Diane

You will forever be missed by those that knew you. Your smile, laugh and gentle touch was what made knowing you and being part of your family heaven. By now, most of my friends and family know that we lost this beautiful woman today. She was finally granted her wings and has flown home to God and her rewards. Anna was my second Mother for the last 50 years and I would be very hard pressed to remember her ever raising her voice in anger. She was a loving wife to Carl; mother to Vivian, Josephine, Frank, and Tony; Mother-in-law to me, Charles, Ed, Janez, and Beverly; grandmother to Kristina, John, Stacey, Mike, Anthony, & Colleen: great grandma to Conor, Alexander, Tyler, Brendan, Derek, Siobhan, Jake, Cora and Johnny. She was the beloved Aunt Anna to too many to name; loving cousin, and most importantly a friend to anyone that needed one. When it is so popular to say, “If you can be anything, be kind - she always was”. As kind and loving as she was, she still managed to drive me crazy sometimes and I’m now just realizing how much I am going to miss those times. Rest peacefully Mom, you deserve to. Enjoy your reunion with Carl and all your siblings and grandchildren that have been waiting for you. Keep an eye on those of us left behind. Until we meet again.

It didn’t matter if you met her once or saw her everyday, you were getting a hug. One couldn’t help but smile in her presence and oh how her smile lit up a room. She lived quite the life, coming to the United States from Sicily after marrying my grandfather. Together they raised four wonderful children and took pride in watching their family grow. Those four children led to eight grandchildren & nine great-grandchildren. She has left behind quite a legacy. Heaven gained a true angel.
My hope has always been that my children know how special & fortunate they were to have a great-grandmother in their lives. They have been one of my greatest sources of comfort as they retell tales of their beloved Nonna. Her love for her family (& their love for her) is what I will cherish and remember most…that and how she said napkin.
Say hello to everyone for me. Watch over us until we meet again…

Zia Anna, as we all affectionally called her, was one of the sweetest and kindest people I've ever met.
When Peter and I got married and moved to NYC, he immediately said we had to visit Zia Anna and Zio Carlo "our only family here in the US!"
I remember meeting them for the first time and the warm embraces. Zia Anna and Zio Carlo were welcoming, affectionate and Zia Anna always made so many wonderfully delicious platters of food.
It really did feel like coming home. She always had a kind word to say and her presence exuded warmth. I will always cherish those early memories with her and she lives forever in my heart.
RIP, Zia Anna. Ti voglio bene.

One or two lines could never give this sweet lady justice! For 50+ years she always welcomed you with a smile(that lit up a room) a hug and kiss.
Truly an Angel that walked the earth and now watches over her entire family!
If I can write a summary from the entire McPartland family it would be "Thank you for sharing your family with us, we are all better off as a result".
Fino a quando ci incontriamo di nuovo

Zia Anna holds a special place in my childhood memories. There wasn’t a Christmas or Easter holiday without going to Zia Anna ‘s. I can still remember walking into the kitchen and seeing Zia Anna making her delicious manicotti. Her sweet smile and big hug would greet me every time. I will miss and love her forever. Q: What will you never forget about Anna?
A: Mia Cara Zia Anna-
I will always cherish you and my childhood memories of our visits with my Dear Zia in New City, NY and Granada Hills, CA. They were always filled with much love, excitement, anticipation, joy and of course FOOD! And yes... the best and most delicious meals and treats you could ever imagine. (salivating...lol!) Aside from our distant visits there were weekly calls between Zia Anna and Mom (her 10 year younger Baby sister-Silvia). My kind and ever loving Zia always made it a point to speak to me and ask ...Howza my Jojo?! I luva you, Jojo.
And Zia ...I LUVA YOU TOO, my Zietta Bella! Grazie per tutto!
May Eternal rest be grant unto her, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithfully departed, through the mercy of God, Rest In Peace. Love,
Famiglia Nardulli

If the meek shall inherit the earth, then the world is in great hands with Anna Piparo!
My first vivid memory of meeting Anna was at her home in Ozone Park, when she entertained the McPartland family for the engagement of Vivian and John. She put an antipasto spread out in front of 9 McPartlands, that was spectacular. Then, without comment, the table was cleared and she brought out the main entree with vegetables and pasta. That was followed by dessert and coffee and all without breaking a sweat (or at least she made it appear that way).
Over the past 50 years, we have never heard Anna issue a harsh word. She always had a smile on her face and would welcome you with a big “hello” and hug. She would hold your hand, just a little longer than normal, and then pat you on the hand and ask “how are you”?
One of the last memories I have of being in Annas grace, was at a holiday gathering in Oceanside, and Anna wanted a little taste of wine…..”just a little” she would say. The story continues with several “just a littles” and a warm glow appeared on her face with the best wry smile, as she looked around the table at her family, gathered just as she would want it.
“La pace e l’amore di Dio siano con te” - all our love - Donna and Jerome

Zia Anna was such a sweet and kind person. When we would drive up to New York to see my dad's sister's family it was always SO exciting when we would go to visit Zia Anna and family. She was so warm and welcoming, and as a child, I couldn't wait to go up to her to give her a big hug and kiss! People were always welcome in her home. She enjoyed our visits. I remember her being a great cook and always preparing food for everyone. There were barbeques in the summer and huge Christmas dinners. She loved celebrations! I will miss you Zia. Love, Nancy

Aunt Anna (Zia Anna) was like a second mother to me. She was a woman who loved unconditionally. And Zia Anna would make sure you knew that. I was well into adulthood before it occurred to me how very much loved I felt in her presence. It would be like a healing experience each and every time I was with Zia Anna. Her bright eyes; big, beautiful smile; and joyous voice while greeting me are memories I will always treasure. Anna was a gift in my Life — one I’ll cherish forever.
Ciao, Zia Anna. Sarai sempre nel mio cuore.

I was Mom’s first born followed by Josephine, Frank and Anthony. We blessed her with 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. After their retirement mom and Dad traveled extensively. Mom always had a smile on her face and never a harsh word for anyone. After Dad’s hospitalization following a fall in 2006, Mom moved in with me and John and continued until her fall in 2021. She attended the Senior Center on a daily basis rarely missing a day. She said they’d miss her if she didn’t go. As a young wife and mother she also cared for my paternal grandparents for more than 10 years. She was a safe haven for my cousins as well as a confidant for many. Our house was always filled with family and good food. Nothing could keep her down or keep her helping out a family member in need. Mom was also a very determined woman insisting that my brother fly her to Italy to join my sister and I to celebrate her sister-in-law’s 90th birthday. She was 93 at the time. The Pandemic was the beginning of the end. She woke up each morning asking if she was going to the Senior Center. Her bag was packed with a set of cards, her bingo cards and her ever present word search books. But after awhile she started to lose interest in her books and slowly but surely also stopped playing Rummicube with us after dinner each night. A visit to the optometrist told us she had macular degeneration. There was little that could be done for the type she had. Just shy of year after lock down, mom took a fall. She was hospitalized, survived the surgery and tried very hard to walk again. We celebrated her 100th birthday at Rockville Skilled Nursing home via zoom with scores of family and friends joining in from across the country and Europe! It was an incredible celebration. At her 101 birthday I asked her if she remembered how old she was. She thought for a minute and said “92”. When I told her she was 101 she quipped “I should live so long! And she did. She’s was 101 years 7 months and 8 days when she took her last breath only a few hours before my next visit.
My mom was a superwoman! She could cook, clean, heal and cured two grandkids of lice infestation. There was no like her, nor will there ever be. I will miss her forever, love her for always, as long as I’m living my mommy she’ll be❤️
