Obituary of Alfred LaCascia
Please share a memory of Alfred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On Monday, April 11, 2022, Alfred Joseph La Cascia, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 80. He was in treatment for lung cancer.
Alfred was born on February 14, 1942 in Brooklyn, NY to Anthony and Rose (Moschetto) La Cascia. He was a licensed plumber and lifelong member of the UA Plumbers Local Union #1 of New York City, practicing for 45 years in New York City and Long Island. On September 4, 1970, he married Gayle Regina Nittoly. They raised two daughters, Lynne and Lauren.
Al had a passion for restoring classic cars, DIY home improvements, waterskiing, and travel, especially abroad. His love of hard work, cars, boats and the water, was exceeded only by his devotion to his family. He loved helping family, friends, and neighbors with anything that required his ingenuity and handy touch. Al spent his life surrounded by women—his sister, wife, daughters, sister-in-law, nieces, granddaughter—who he loved applauding and taking care of tirelessly. He valiantly fought and was felled by lung cancer, but only after surviving a heart attack, a two-story fall, colon cancer, a half-dozen other orthopedic surgeries, and the advice of all those women.
Al is survived by his wife, Gayle, his two daughters, Lynne and Lauren, his son-in-law-to-be, Bill Schoenmaker, his granddaughter, Lana, his sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and David Cronrath, his sister-in-law, Lynne Clifford, and his loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A wake will be held on Monday, April 18th, 2022 at Towers Funeral Home in Oceanside, NY from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 19th, 2022 at Our Holy Redeemer Church in Freeport, NY at 10:30am, followed by a burial at Calvary Cemetery.
