Obituary of Sophie Daskalakis

Sophie Daskalakis passed away at age 93 on May 11, 2021. She was preceded by her husband, George and daughter, Terry. Sophie is survived by her children, George, Christina, and Greg; her grandchildren, Stephanie, George, Theodora, and Kevin; and great grandson Logan George. Sophie was a woman that knew exactly what she wanted. Whether that meant Greek dancing, shopping at Annie Sez, hosting poker nights, bowling, or drinking George’s wine. Most notably, she did all these things while wearing her favorite pair of high heels. Sophie was a long-time member of her church, Panaghia, and part of the Philoptochos Society. She was well known for her Greek cooking, especially her cookies where all 200+ were shaped perfectly by hand. In her later years, she was able to befriend Google to play Greek music, which filled her house with warmth. She will be truly missed. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Panaghia of Island Park. The funeral will be held 10:00 am on Friday, May 14th at Panaghia Greek Orthodox Church, 83 Newport Rd, Island Park, NY. Burial will be in Greenfield Cemetery, Uniondale on Friday, May 14th at 11:15am.
