Obituary of Louis Bamundo

Please share a memory of Louis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Louis was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 11, 1919. He was the fifth of seven children born to immigrant parents who came to America from a small town outside of Naples, Italy. Louis spent part of his childhood in Italy and became fluent in Italian, as well as English. The family eventually returned to Brooklyn and Louis resumed his education for a period of time. He loved school, but unfortunately, he had to leave school at an early age to help support his family. He began working as a printer, which became his lifelong occupation. Louis worked as a printer for the Atlantic Playing Card Company well past retirement age, even travelling to Connecticut into his eighties. During World War II, Louis served in the Army from April, 1942 until November, 1945 when he was honorably discharged. He received several decorations and citations for his service, including the American Service Medal, The European-African Service Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. After the war ended, Louis remained in Italy where he worked as a translator for the army. During this time, he met his future wife, Wanda, whom he married on July 15, 1948 in Naples. They subsequently moved to Brooklyn, New York and raised two children, Barbara, born in 1949 and Steven, born in 1954. In 1966 they bought a house in Rosedale, Queens where Louis lived until he relocated to Maple Pointe in April, 2017 (Wanda having passed away in 2009). Louis is survived by his daughter and son; a son-in-law, Charles; a daughter-in-law, Matina; a grandson, Keith (wife, Nicole) and two beautiful great granddaughters, Danielle (12) and Katelyn (10). He was always a devoted family man who cherished his time with those he loved.
