This may be a bit unorthodox and it’s meant to share a memory but I’m just going to say something as if I were speaking to him.
Life moves so fast and pulls us in different directions and I know that’s okay. When we met at Nassau CC I remember thinking who’s this crazy ass white dude that drives way too fast, dances his ass off and protects his family and friends fearlessly? Soon after meeting you became one of my best friends. I almost made it to spring break until you told my mom “ Trust me I will make sure Ron practices safe sex the whole time we’re there” after my parents Pentecostal prayer meeting that you came to and participated seamlessly as if you grew up doing it your whole life. All the dinners I crashed where Patrice and Mondo welcomed me with open hands and an open heart to their table. The deep conversations, and laughs we shared will always remain in my heart. Your brothers who always had your back.
I know your time was cut short and it’s unfair but many people live this life and never leave a mark. Bro You left yours on everyone you met. You left your mark on me. On my heart. Tears flow as I write this but that’s how I know the mark is real and will always remain. Everyone has their ups and downs but everything you did it was to the fullest. Bro I miss you and I love you. You know… the message translation of
2 Corinthians 5:8 says:
That’s why we live with such good cheer. You won’t see us drooping our heads or dragging our feet! Cramped conditions here don’t get us down. They only remind us of the spacious living conditions ahead. It’s what we trust in but don’t yet see that keeps us going. Do you suppose a few ruts in the road or rocks in the path are going to stop us? When the time comes, we’ll be plenty ready to exchange exile for homecoming.
I know you’re enjoying the space, dancing for the saints, and bringing joy to everyone you meet. The same joy you brought to my life.
