“Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure.
You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.”
Gary Harold Schoell (age 66), of Oceanside, New York, died February 5, 2021, in Rockville Centre, New York after fighting pancreatic cancer. He was born on February 20, 1954, to parents Donald Schoell and Elsie Schoell in Glendale (Queens), New York. Gary Schoell graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and Economics from St. John’s University where he played baseball and was a Rhodes Scholar candidate. He received his MBA from New York University Stern School of Business. Gary met his wife, Alexandra (Sandie) Schoell while attending St. John’s University and married on July 2nd, 1977. They had their first son, Michael Schoell, in 1984 and their second son, Christopher Schoell in 1988. Gary worked as a financial services technology project manager and executive on Wall Street for over 30 years, including over 20 years at Citigroup. After retiring from JPMorgan Chase in 2017, he worked in real estate for several years after retirement.
A quiet, dignified, incredibly intelligent man with a great sense of humor, Gary was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Gary and his wife Sandie have resided in Oceanside for over 39 years. They are active supporters of the Oceanside community. Gary served on the board of The Friends of the Oceanside Library and is a past coach of the Oceanside Little League and the Oceanside United Soccer Club. Sandie is a trustee of the Oceanside Board of Education and an active participant in many community organizations. Gary’s impact on the community was like the man himself: quiet, behind the scenes, but so very significant. Gary was an avid fan of the Mets, Jets and Islanders and a family man who loved spending time with his family and friends.
Gary is survived by his wife, Alexandra (Sandie) Schoell, son Michael (daughter-in-law Erika, grandchildren Brianne, Julie and Lucas), son Christopher (daughter-in-law Jillian, grandchild Baby Schoell and doggie best friend Quinn), father Donald Schoell and sister Donna Cintorino (brother-in-law Paul, nephew and godson Matthew and fiancé Jessica).
