Please share a memory of Philip to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Philip M. Leaden Philip M. Leaden, 65, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2021 in Hospice at Mercy Medical Center, Rockville Centre, NY after a stroke just before the Christmas holiday. Phillip is survived by his siblings including Christine Lynch O'Grady, Eileen Lynch Luchsinger, Stephen Leaden (Donna), Brian Lynch (Kathy), Kevin Lynch (Marigrace), Christopher Leaden (Lynn), Patricia Lynch, Janet Leaden Samuels (Mitch), Richard Leaden, Regina Leaden Lones (Jim), and John F. Leaden (Keli). Philip lost a 13th sibling, James Leaden (Linn) to cancer in 2015. Phil grew up in a loving family of 6 other siblings under father John V. Leaden and mother Margaret M. Stipak Leaden. At 13 years old, Phil was blessed with a blended family of 12 brothers and sisters, with father John, previously a widower, and mother Mary Jane, a previous widow. Phil had aspired to be a chef after working in local restaurants for several years by attending SUNY Sullivan's Culinary School for a semester. Phil remained single during his life and always loved his family over the years. Phil was a special needs individual, who suffered from bipolar disorder much of his life. In recent years, he was able to manage his disorder through medication, and he taught all of us to be grateful, thankful, and appreciative in any circumstance. Phil was always quick with his wit and had a 'dad' joke in his pocket every time he spoke with someone. Over the years, Phil had been involved with his nieces and nephews by babysitting for a number of them, and helping family members as a handyman with repairs and improvements on their homes. Phil was also an avid bicyclist, and learned to become an expert at repairing and tuning up bikes and kept himself in physical shape over the years. Phil also enjoyed basketball and martial arts and worked for a period at a local martial arts studio. Phil stood by a quote from one his mentors, Bruce Lee, who stated that "do not pray for an easy life, pray for the strength to endure a difficult one". Phil was an attendee of Saint Anthony's Roman Catholic Church in Oceanside NY, and consistently approached the music ministry after Mass and commented on how well their music was done. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 13th, 2021, 9:45am at St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church in Oceanside, NY. Final resting place will be at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury NY. Due to COVID, we are inviting family and close friends to attend the Mass in person or via Zoom. We are restricted to 100 people at the Church with masks. If you would like to attend the Mass remotely via Zoom, please email Steve Leaden, sleaden@leaden.com for details.
