Please share a memory of Alexander to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Obituary of Alexander James Exarchou Departed December 13, 2020 Alexander James Exarchou, known by the masses as "Big Alex", was a beloved father, husband, pappou, brother, coach, construction and architecture professional, proud chairman of the Pins for Pauly foundation, and contributor to multiple parishes, most notably Saint Demetrios of Merrick, NY and Saints Anargyroi, Taxiarchis and Gerasimos of Greenport, NY. He imparted strength, faith, and courage onto all who were fortunate enough to cross his path. A father-figure in multiple communities, he famously preached a "be your own author" approach to life and encouraged individuals to "not let others write your story for you". With unparalleled faith and courage, he confidently led by example in teaching the meaning of "Philotimo" (φιλότιμο), to stand for "what is right no matter what", putting his eternal faith above temporary popular views and material possessions. He firmly stood for equality and civil rights, and gave a voice to those who felt unheard. Alexander James Exarchou is proudly survived by his wife Deborah Despina, his two sons Alexander George and Nicholas Gregory, his daughter-in-law Sarah Sofia, his grandson George Alexander, and all of his loving siblings, neices and nephews. He forever emphasized the importance of his family, which he proudly held as his greatest accomplishment.
