Jewell (Julie) Anne Fitzgerald, 76, of Westbury, New York, died on Thursday, June 11, 2020 at her residence.
She was born on October 18, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois to Harry and Jewell (Culhane) Eisfeldt. She graduated from Maine Twp. High School West, Des Plaines, Illinois, in 1961, and in 1965 received her teaching degree in French from Monmouth College, Monmouth, Illinois. She also spent one summer studying at the Université Laval in Quebec before earning her Masters Degree in French Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
In 1969, she met and married Gary Fitzgerald and they moved to Oceanside, NY where they started their life and their family together.
For 22 years, Julie was a beloved teacher of French and Spanish in both the Carle Place Middle and High Schools, and in 2010 she received the “Kathleen Ann Lyons Memorial Excellence in Teaching Award” from the Long Island Language Teachers.
She enjoyed pastel painting, needlework, sewing, cooking, traveling, rescuing shelter dogs and the pursuit of lifelong learning, but most of all, she treasured her family above all.
Julie will be deeply missed by her daughter Tracy, her grandson Brent, her two siblings; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as countless students, colleagues, and friends who were lucky enough to have been touched by her kindness, empathy, wisdom, humor and devotion.
Julie was preceded in death by her husband Gary, her parents and her son, Brent Harris Fitzgerald.
Due to the current situation, a memorial service will be postponed until a later time.
