Obituary of Maria N Fotinos
Please share a memory of Maria to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Maria Fotinos, 75, was born in Amades, Chios, Greece, on August 10, 1944, and passed away on October 21, 2019, with her daughters by her side. After a hard-fought battle with Parkinson's and dementia, Marigo (as she was affectionately called) has been reunited with her parents, her husband, and the family and friends who were called home to Paradise.
Maria is survived by her three daughters and their spouses: Irene Fotinos Seretis (Nicholas), Chrisoula Zikos (George), and Julie Boulas (Nikolas); her six grandchildren; her nine great-grandchildren; her siblings; and her nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
Maria was a dedicated mother and a devoted grandmother. She treasured her family and the moments she spent with loved ones, especially her Sunday outings and going to church with her sisters. She was cherished as "Yiayia Marigo"—a role she was made for: She was the protector of children, making sure that "ta pedia" were always healthy, safe, sheltered, and fed...or over fed. She loved to garden and gather, and to watch things grow strong and be of good use; and this care was magnified when it came to people. No one ever left Marigo's presence hungry, thirsty, or cold. "Yiayia Marigo" was an angel that God allowed on Earth for a short while. Despite her decline in memory, she never forgot people, neither the living nor the dead, and we will never forget her. She will always be in our hearts, and her legacy of love will live on.
