My sisters (Kate LoCurto and Ellen Alaimo) knew Ralph as “Uncle Ralph.” He married Joan, our mom’s sister. Our mom (Eleanor) set the tone for our adulation of Ralph, and he always lived up to the hype. He was talented, gentle, loving, and cool. He worked in NewYork City and knew it inside and out. Once, when showing me around the city during my first-ever visit there, while frantically crossing a busy street as the “Don’t Walk” sign flashed away, he reassured my safety, telling me, “it says ‘don’t walk,’ but it’s not an order, really, just a suggestion.” Ralph enjoyed all the cultural offerings the Big Apple provided: museums, opera, Broadway shows, and more. He was truly a wonderful man, and will be missed greatly.
