Please except my deepest sadness for the Loss of your family and our American hero. He was born the same year I was and I watched the whole story play out on tv wishing and hoping that he would have never had that terrible unfairness happen to him and his family and his close firefighter community. I live in Vermont and I felt so close to your father and family member and I know people all over the world are seeing him and all of the firefighters as hero’s. I’m so glad I was able to express my thoughts to you and your family. Good Bless him and your family and the New York firefighters Champions forever. Thank you so deeply for your service.

I would like to pass on condolences to The Alvarez family for the loss of their husband, father, son, brother, uncle & friend. May you all be blessed with Jesus' Peace - The Peace that surpasses all understanding & arrive at the point where you smile (& not cry) at the memory/reminder of your loved one, Hero Luis Alvarez. I hope you are comforted by the utmost respectful, honored & blessed way that He was remembered by his old parrish, the NYPD, the servicemen (in the skies & on the ground) and the rest of the entire community of fellow first responders, local govt., and neighborhood people.
I was deeply impacted by this fallen hero's story & lifetime of service he gave. As an Astoria lifer myself who graduated H.S. (L.I.C.) the same year and also shared the same birth month & year, I felt the impact of his loss during his nearby funeral service. It touched me that I walked the same blocks as this hero with such a high calling. I, & many others (including Congress), have now been reminded again (& more strongly) about the long and continued plight of the brave & self-sacrificial 9/11 first responders. Those that did not go to Ground Zero to help save/recover lives are all indebted & have a great moral obligation to the 1st responders & their cause. You are his legacy, how proud you must be! You now have an angel in Heaven w/extra large wings making sure you all will be generationally blessed by the acts of your hero who did God's Work of service. God bless you & comfort you. In Christ, Helen T.

On this 4th of July I wasn't feeling particularly patriotic because of the current resident of the White House. Then I learned of the passing of a true American super hero, Detective Luis G. Alvarez. His bravery, heroism, and selflessness during the horrible days of and following the 911 attack is what we all should admire and hold up as the gold standard of the very best of the United States of America. He represents patriotism at its finest! May God bless and comfort his family and friends. Along with a most grateful nation, I thank him for his extraordinary service to our country!

I didn’t know Luis personally, but I have never seen such courage and selflessness as he displayed in his final days. It inspires the rest of us to carry on the cause of making sure all ailing first responders are cared for by the country they sacrificed their lives to serve.

So sorry for your loss .There are no words to heal the pain of your loss. Know you are surrounded by love and although his time here was short he made a major difference in people’s lives not just once but over and over. In his occupation And after 9/11 and even though his struggles to the end made. Major difference for others who were effected . His life had a purpose and he leaves behind a legacy that will never be forgotten.
